A leading international law firm with over 5000 staff had a large Windows NT 4.0 domain infrastructure distributed across multiple offices throughout the world. This architecture had grown over a number of years and comprised nearly 30 regional account domains each managed locally. The firm was keen to enable better technical collaboration between lawyers in the various offices and enable flexible working practices to allow travelling lawyers better opportunities to logon and work in any regional office and build a platform upon which the firm could deploy an Exchange email server architecture. Venture 1 Consulting was approached to design the Active Directory infrastructure that would meet the firm’s requirements. Thanks to the improved scalability of Active Directory, it was decided to migrate the various domains into a single, global, Active Directory domain infrastructure. Venture 1 Consulting produced a series of design and migration documents which laid out in detail the recommended Windows Active Directory infrastructure, a group policy and OU design, a migration strategy and a backup and restore strategy. To ensure thorough quality controls, these documents were reviewed and approved by Microsoft Consulting Services prior to deployment. Venture 1 Consulting managed the complex migration of the 30 domains into a single worldwide domain. As a result the firm has seen numerous benefits:
